We’re delighted to have been asked by Opera Luna to present a new production of La Traviata in this historic setting.
La Traviata is considered to be the most popular opera ever.
The story, based on Alexander Dumas fils’ play, La Dame aux camelias, is of a famous courtesan, Violetta, and her tragic love affair with Alfredo. This production, set in Paris in the late 1930′s, has the glamour of pre-war Paris, lending itself to the intimacy that Verdi’s stunning opera requires.
Bernie Lafontaine of Opera Novella as Musical Director and his chamber ensemble are joined by a Heritage Opera cast that includes Heritage Opera favourites Sarah Helsby Hughes as Violetta, Nicholas Sales as Alfredo and internationally-renowned baritone Mark Holland making his Heritage Opera debut as Giorgio Germont.
